Rockwall County Court House

Although a new courthouse was built in Rockwall, Texas in 2011, you may not find a reason to visit unless you deal with the courts. If you want to take a trip to learn more about local government or the system itself and see great architecture, a visit to the new county courthouse makes sense. It features a stunning Texas Design Letter dome that illuminates the terraced roof county seal in the center of the floor below. You will also see a beautiful mural of the new building and the historic Rockwall Courthouses hanging on the wall.

The original Rockwall County Courthouse was destroyed in a fire decades ago. Built in 1940, the historic building still stands and offers a unique perspective back in time. Thanks to the Art Deco style, the architecture and interior views are reminiscent of previous times. A corner stone with the important names of various district magistrates and the architect can be seen from outside. Although the building was extensively renovated in 2002, it retained all of its unique Paris-inspired style. Don’t forget to check out this place in Rockwall too.

The interior of the Rockwall County Courthouse (1941) invites you to explore both the first and upper floor courtrooms. While not a full museum experience, there are plenty of opportunities for you and your family to learn something interesting about this historic building and city. Take some time to travel back in time to look at the many old photos on the walls and imagine how it was all those years ago. While the entertainment value of visiting either Rockwall County Courthouse is minimal, the historic building on the central square opens the door to a historic downtown walk. When you stop at the Historic Park Museum on Washington Street, your group can pick up a printed brochure that guides you to many points of interest in the city. Some of these include the former site of the first village store, the Masonic Hall, and many different shops and businesses on the surrounding streets.
